Down with the by-law!

The city of Waterloo has a noise by-law that is in effect 24 hours a day.

This means that keggers, which in the summer are a daily occurence, can expect visits from the cops as early as 7 pm.

This morning, Pat and I were awoken by the sound of drums and trumpets outside his apartment at 10 in the god-damn morning. When I, half-joking, suggested he make a noise complaint, you better believe he did!
It was actually the funniest thing ever. The source of the noise was a bunch of young cadets and some official-looking older men (possibly even police officers) preparing for some kind of parade. We watched from his window laughing our asses off as a cruiser pulled up to talk to the crowd. Yeah, we're assholes.
Of course, the cadets/marching band were given an exemption to this by-law.

Seriously though, please don't tell me that students drinking in a back-yard at 7 pm is more disruptive than a marching band at 10 am on SUNDAY morning. If you ask me, that's what people where I come from call BULLSHIT.

Pat and I have now made it our plight to look into this rediculous by-law and get to the bottom of this prejudice against students and the sacred rite of drinking excessive amounts of beer. We hope to eventually lead a coallition against the by-law, or at least get the same exemption for keggers (at least until 11 is reasonable) that the annoying-as-hell marching band got.

Waterloo loves its fucking by-laws. They have by-laws about everything. One time at my old house the driveway was under construction and all the parking in the area was taken. My roommate parked on the lawn for 15 minutes while she came home to get something and a by-law officer tried to give her a $200 ticket. Apparently it didn't matter that it was her own lawn - parking on your lawn is a$200 offence.
